The Rank Group have continued to experience falling revenue from their Mecca bingo halls.

In the 15 weeks to 15th December revenue intake stayed the same as the same period last year.  Its 5 percent rise in average spend was offset by a 5 percent fall in attendance.

Many people are believed to be staying away from bingo halls due to the recession and its negative affects such as higher unemployment as well as the increases in utility bills with many people struggling to make ends meet.

The smoking ban can’t really be blamed for the recent drop in attendances as it came into force in July 2007.

Unfortunately the trend is unlikely to be reversed next year and sadly more bingo halls may have to close as Mecca Bingo will be going through an increasingly difficult time.
