Welsh Bingo Hall to Celebrate 100th Birthday
Judge’s Bingo Hall in Tonypandy in the Rhonda Valley area of Wales will be celebrating being open for 100 years in 2009 and plans are already being made to mark the occasion.
The hall was built in 1909 at a cost of £6,000. It was officially opened by Princess Louise and The Duke of Argyll. It was originally called ‘The Judge Williams Memorial Hall’.
The building had a 1,500 capacity concert hall together with a library and billiards room.
Since its early days it has become a popular venue for bingo under long term manager, Phil McCarthy.
Adam Rowland’s, Judge’s deputy manager told walesonline.co.uk, “We have staff here that have been in bingo for more than 40 years. Philip McCarthy, Terry Hutchings, Philip May, Gwyneth Pothecary and I would like to make our 100th birthday a special occasion.
“I have been doing some research and have found some information about the hall’s history but I would like to hear from anyone who has any documents or pictures which I could use during the centenary celebrations.”
